The Care Worker role
Care Workers provide practical help and support to a wide range of people such as senior citizens with care needs and children and adults with physical and learning disabilities. As a Care Worker you may need to work in a range of environments, such as residential homes, day centres or in the individual home.
Care Workers will play a big part in supporting the client and their families with their personal, social and domestic care and will work on a daily or weekly basis depending on their specific requirements. The role of a Care Worker will normally involve:
- building relationships with the client to identify their practical and social need and to establish a routine
- assisting clients with washing, dressing, feeding and toileting
- supporting the client with everyday tasks such as cooking, shopping and cleaning
- helping clients with admin tasks such as paying bills, managing budgets, email writing
- escorting clients to different locations such as shops, school etc
- organising leisure and recreational activities
- helping families adapt to the caring requirements of the client
